Hibiclens Scrub Information
Your surgeon has ordered Hibiclens 4%, also called chlorhexidine gluconate. It is a special soap to be used in the shower the night prior to surgery, and the morning of surgery before arriving. It can bepurchased at most large drug stores.
Before Using Hibiclens:
-
Take a shower with your regular soap before using Hibiclens.
-
Wash your hair with normal shampoo and rinse well.
-
Wash your face and genital areas with regular soap and water only.
-
Rinse your body very well with warm water.
Steps to use Hibiclens scrub:
1) Use Hibiclens in the shower the night before and the morning of surgery, prior to arriving at the surgery center.
2) Pour a quarter size amount of Hibiclens onto a clean, wet washcloth.
3) Turn off the water so you do not rinse the Hibiclens off too soon.
4) Gently rub the Hibiclens filled washcloth over your entire body from the neck down for five (5)
minutes. Avoid scrubbing your skin too hard. Do NOT use on your face, hair, or genital areas.
5) Turn the water back on and rinse very well with warm water.
6) Do not use your regular soap after using and rinsing Hibiclens.
7) Pat yourself dry with a clean towel.
8) Do not use antiperspirant/deodorant, lotion, perfume, or powder.
9) If you notice a rash, redness or itching after using the Hibiclens, rinse off again. Do not use it
again. Let your healthcare provider know.
10)Put on clean clothes.
11)Sleep with clean bed linens.
12)During this process, good hand hygiene is a must throughout the entire day, each day.
This protocol helps prevent infection and ensure the best success and recovery for you.
