Medications and Supplements to Avoid Before and After Plastic Surgery – Wichita, KS
The medications listed below, herbs, diet pills, green tea, supplements, smoking and second hand smoking should be avoided at least two (2) weeks before and two (2) weeks after surgery. These medications may cause bleeding or interfere with healing, blood pressure and anesthesia. Smoking, nicotine gum/patch and second hand smoke may interfere and anesthesia and healing and may cause skin loss and wounds. Permanently quitting smoking is always recommended. This list may not include all medications. Do not stop regularly prescribed medications on your own such as heart and circulation medications. Check with your pharmacist, prescribing physician and/or Dr. J. Rieger before you stop taking any medications. Tylenol and regular multivitamin tablets do not need to be avoided.

Weightloss Medications: Metabolife, Phentermine, Patients must hold all GLP-1 Inhibitors at least two (2) weeks prior to procedure (Ozempic, Saxenda, Wegovy, etc.) due to delayed gastric emptying, putting the patient at risk for aspiration.
Diabetic Medications: If you are diabetic, please notify your prescribing physician of your upcoming surgery and ask if any medications will need to be stopped. If you are on any of these medications, please check with the prescribing physician to see if another medication is needed during the 24-hour period prior to surgery: Actoplus, Avandamet, Fortamet, Glucovance, Glyburide, Metaglip, Metformin (Glucophage).
