Every patient's recovery is unique, but most people experience similar healing milestones after rhinoplasty. This guide walks you through each stage—from the day of surgery to your final results—so you know what to expect throughout the healing process.

DAY OF SURGERY

Go home the same day

Splint placed on your nose

Mild swelling and congestion are expected 

Rest with your head elevated

WEEK 1

Swelling and bruising gradually decrease 

 

Your nasal splint is usually removed at your first follow-up appointment


Most patients feel ready to return to work or normal daily activities

Recovery Tips for a Smooth Healing Process

Following your post-operative instructions is one of the best ways to promote healing and achieve the best possible rhinoplasty result. While every patient's recovery is unique, these general tips can help support the healing process.

PROTECT YOUR NOSE

Avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunscreen after healing to minimize discoloration.

DON'T SMOKE 

Smoking slows healing and may increase the risk of complications. 

ATTEND FOLLOW-UP VISITS

Keep all scheduled appointments so Dr. Rieger can monitor your healing and answer questions. 

SLEEP ELEVATED

Sleep with your head elevated for the first several days to help reduce swelling.

REDUCE SWELLING

Apply cold compresses around the eyes as directed during the first 48 hours.

AVOID STRENUOUS

ACTIVITY

Avoid heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, and activities that increase blood pressure until cleared by Dr. Rieger.
