What is a Facelift & Neck Lift?
Facial aging rarely stops at the jawline. As deeper facial tissues descend, jowls can develop while the skin and muscles of the neck also begin to loosen. Treating only one area can leave an imbalance between the face and neck.
Dr. Rieger performs facelift and neck lift surgery together, allowing him to address the lower face, jawline and neck as one continuous area. During surgery, deeper facial tissues are repositioned, excess skin is removed, and the neck is tightened to create smoother, more youthful contours.
The goal is not to change the way you look or create an overly tight appearance. It is to restore definition while maintaining a natural relationship between the face, jawline and neck.

How Facelift & Neck Lift
Surgery Works
A facelift and neck lift addresses more than loose skin. Dr. Rieger works with the deeper supporting tissues of the face and neck to restore definition while avoiding an overly pulled or tight appearance.

Facial Tissues
Beneath the skin is a supportive layer called the SMAS. As the face ages, changes in these deeper tissues contribute to jowling and loss of definition along the jawline.
During facelift surgery, Dr. Rieger repositions and tightens these deeper tissues before removing excess skin and carefully redraping the skin over the improved facial contours.

02 THE NECK LIFT
Tightening the
Platysma
The platysma is a thin sheet of muscle extending across the front and sides of the neck. With aging, its edges can separate and contribute to visible neck bands and loss of definition beneath the chin.
During the neck lift portion of surgery, the platysma can be tightened and the separated muscle edges brought together. This technique, called platysmaplasty, helps create a smoother, more defined neck contour.
Where Are Facelift & Neck Lift Incisions?
Facelift and neck lift incisions are carefully positioned around the ear and within or along the hairline to make them as inconspicuous as possible once healed.
Dr. Rieger places the incisions so he can access and reposition the deeper tissues of the face and neck while preserving a natural-looking hairline. After the deeper tissues are tightened and excess skin is removed, the incisions are carefully closed.
While every surgical incision results in a scar, facelift scars typically become less noticeable as they mature and are designed to blend with the natural contours around the ears and hairline.
